Absolutely agree with you about teaching cooking and nutrition in schools, it's such an important skill to learn. There seems to be at least 2 generations who have missed out on this. Loved the stories of your childhood😊

Love your writing! Particularly the details. David Tennant in a hairband, the cow and the one-armed fishmonger.

I’m sure there is a joke in there somewhere about the one armed fishmonger … was he in fact an arms(t)ealer? Weak I know.

Thank you so much for brightening my Thursday. I remember that cookery book as well but we weren't allowed to keep our own copy! I consider it my grandparent duty to get my grandchildren cooking - both my daughter and son can hold their own in the kitchen - certainly not from school!

Oh well I'm glad we could keep ours! Obviously we had to cover them in sticky back plastic first.

I'm sorry but I have to stand up in defence of macaroni cheese - my absolute favourite comfort food and something that would probably feature on my death row final meal menu. But I have to agree that crumbling up wotsits to scatter on top is probably a step too far!

Loving the writing - please keep them coming x

Haha and thank you - I think it's the lack of vegetables that gets me. I feel you need a very sharp watercress salad to go with it.

True. Although as not the world’s biggest vegetable fan I do eat them but only because they’re good for me so any excuse to leave them out of my dish is happily jumped on.

Having said that though, I often add cauliflower to my macaroni cheese - which I take as a win when it occurs. 🤣

Oh well if you add cauliflower you’re completely exonerated!
